At Star Trek Phase II, we try to get all the Trek-ian details right.

However, it’s a bit of a pain when we have a “flashback” scene of some kind–a scene that will show some aspect of the Trek universe that we probably won’t have much need to show in future episodes.  The cap worn by Captain Christopher Robin Pike (in proper naval parlance a hat is called a cover) is such detail we try to get right.

We see that cover briefly in Captain Pike’s quarters.  (It is sitting on top of the television-like console unit in his quarters, next to his laser pistol; he never actually wears the cover.)

It would appear to be a typical eight-pointed Marine Corps utility cover in a gray color–which matches the gray jacket worn by early Starfleet crewmembers while on a landing party duty.  In fact, it is somewhat reminiscent of the caps worn in the movie Forbidden Planet:

At any rate, here is the Star Trek Phase II reproduction of an early Starfleet-era utility cover:

Wow Greg, I never noticed that before. I thought they were way off-target with the new uniforms for the next Trek film, but here’s evidence that they still had the ‘hats’ in that era. Interesting! — Ken :)

WOW! DIG IT! A tie in to Forbidden Planet too. I like it. I want one. Where can I get one?

  • You buy the eight point Marine Corps navy utility cover from any of several vendors online (like GalaxyArmyNavy.com). You get the United Nations-ish early Starfleet patch for the hat from Trek Classic. (They have a Facebook page).

Thx for the info, been looking, can’t yet find one in a “Charcoal” color like this one… I’ll keep looking and hopefully i’ll find one…

Very impressive. Is that light gray or charcoal gray I was not able to fine that color. Wonder in the lighting of the set in The Cage, if it was OD or black. You information would appreciate and you guys keep up the good work.
