The annual June shoot for Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II will welcome the return of Star Trek alumni David Gerrold as director in 2010. Gerrold, known as the creator of the fuzzy little creatures even non-Trek fans recognize (“The Trouble With Tribbles”), has authored many books, including the “Star Wolf” series, and “The Martian Child”, and “The War Against the Chtorr”. Gerrold also wrote and directed the 2-part New Voyages: Phase II episode “Blood and Fire”, whose release in 2008 and 2009 was met with both critical acclaim and spurred controversy for it’s inclusion of a gay couple among the crew. “David is a Great friend,” said Senior Executive Producer James Cawley, “and I am thrilled he’s able to return!”
The episode, tentatively titled “Origins”, will focus on the early days of young James Kirk and the events that lead him to a life of adventure in the final frontier. Principle photography is scheduled to take place from June 2-June 15, 2010 in upstate New York. Fans interested in participating should watch the Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II website for open recruitment for volunteers.
