STAR TREK: PHASE II NEWS

CGI Artist Tobias Richter Joins the Phase II Team

As recently announced in Phase II eMagazine #7, Tobias Richter (The Light Works Digital Imagery) will be joining the Star Trek: Phase II team. Born in 1967 in the town of Darmstadt, Germany, Richter graduated in 1992 with a Masters Degree in Computer Science. After that he moved to Cologne, Germany to work as lead CG graphics artist for the German television version of Spitting Image.

His own company, The Light Works Digital Imagery, was founded during that time and has been very successfully in the entertainment industry. The Light Works have contributed to many high profile video games, such as the "Star Wars - Rogue Squadron" Series, "Batman - Dark Tomorrow", "Lair", the "Sacred" fantasy series, and the "X" SciFi series - among many others. Since last year, The Light Works is also producing visualizations for the European Space Agency. Additionally, Richter is responsible for the visual effects of several independent movies. Tobias' most recent project has ignited Star Trek fans with his CGI short created for the opening ceremonies of FedCON, viewable here: http://vimeo.com/4474702

Tobias says that he has followed New Voyages/Phase II episodes for many years. In a recent e-mail, he commented, "I am thrilled and exited to be part of the team. Star Trek: Phase II really stands out among the fan produced content. The amount of time and dedication that goes into each episode is breathtaking - and so is the result. I hope I can do my share to keep it on that level and even try to improve it."

Tobias has already begun producing VFX for the upcoming Phase II episode, "The Child." "I am pleased that Tobias is a part of the Phase II team," said Executive Producer James Cawley. "The work he has already done for "The Child," in such a short time, is amazing and I can't wait for fans to see his work in this episode," commented Cawley.
