"World Enough and Time" to Premiere on August 23, 2007 at Worldwide Internet Event

The time has come, the premiere date has been announced for Star Trek: New Voyages “World Enough and Time. August 23, 2007. Fans can join George Takei, James Cawley, Marc Zicree, Michael Reaves, and many others behind this outstanding Star Trek production to watch the premiere as it is happening via streaming video. Executive Producer James Cawley commented on the event on the New Voyages forum, “…the cool part is that we will be doing a LIVE Premiere Event with George Takei in Beverly Hills, Ca. and YOU all will be able to watch it LIVE via Streaming Video right here at startreknewvoyages.com! After the gala you will be able to view the episode right along with us in REAL TIME!!!” This is an unprecedented event for Star Trek: New Voyages and it seems appropriate for this exceptional episode. “World Enough and Time” is truly a New Voyages like fans have never seen before. One of the final edits of the episode was premiered for the cast and crew during the filming of “Blood and Fire.” The end credits rolled to the sound of applause, whistles, and cheers from those lucky enough to see the sneak peek. Cawley asked the crowd to rate it on a scale of one to ten. The crowd overwhelmingly responded “ten,” with a few shouts of “eleven” mixed in. Additional details will be announced over the next few weeks regarding the premiere event and how fans can participate. Keep checking back here for the latest news. (News Release - June 16, 2007)

"World Enough and Time" to Premiere UPDATE

Due to technical problems the "LIVE" premiere event will not take place. However, the ability to view the streaming episode will not be effected. Writer / Director Marc Scott Zicree asked that the following message be posted regarding this change in premiere plans.

Sorry there's been so much confusion regarding the release of "World Enough and Time." We've been working so hard to finish it and set up the infrastructure for you all to see it that it's natural for things to fall through the cracks.

First and foremost, our goal has been to create a terrific episode that will be entertaining and moving and long remembered. I feel very sure we've done exactly that -- and I'm very proud of what we at STAR TREK NEW VOYAGES (the more than 300 fans and Industry pros who worked on the episode) have accomplished.

As to the reasons for streaming the episode and asking for registrations, the streaming comes from the fact that I've heard from many many people that they were unable to download the episode and enjoy it. I wanted it to be more accessible and readily seen. We'll soon see if that's the case.

As to the registrations, it's vital we have accurate numbers as to who is watching the episode. Quite frankly, when we tell the network and the studio that millions have seen STNV, they shake their heads dubiously and say, "Prove it." We want to do just that.

STNV will not be respected by the powers that be (or readily embraced by them) until we have solid numbers that will make them sit up and listen. It's just the way the world works, unfortunately.

Anyway, sorry again for my tardiness in responding to your concerns. Once you see the episode, I'm sure you'll feel that all the bumps along the way were well worth it. I'm prouder of "World Enough and Time" than practically any other of my hundred-plus script sales to the networks. As my erstwhile co-producer Winston Engle has said of "World Enough," "No Network, No Studio, No Problem."

We've made history, all of us, here, now, with this production. Thank you for being a part of it, and for making it worth doing.

All good wishes,
Marc Scott Zicree

It's a wrap! "Blood and Fire" Wraps Principal Photography

“It’s a wrap,” as they say. “Blood and Fire” completed principal photography in New York on Sunday, June 10th, or more accurately early in the morning on Monday, June 11th. Writer / Director David Gerrold called “cut” on the final scene at about 2:00AM. This concluded a 12 day shooting schedule, which saw many 16-hour days to shoot the 100+ page script. Guest stars Denise Crosby and Bill Blair round out the cast and crew from around the country and from around the world. “This was a labor of love for us all,” commented Executive Producer James Cawley, “David had a solid vision of what he wanted and I think we achieved it.” The project moves into post-production with editing, music, visual and sound effects, and other finishing touches ahead. No projected release date has been set and will not likely be set until the post-production work nears completion. (News Release - June 11, 2007)

Under the guidance of Director David Gerrold and Assistant Director Charlie Washburn, the cast and crew will be working their way through an approximately 80-plus page script, with 5 cameras and two separate filming units working on the production. “Wow, have we grown,” remarked Executive Producer James Cawley in a recent e-mail to those involve in the filming of ST:NV’s fourth episode. “We have a cast and crew of 120 [people] from all over the world!” Star Trek fans from Canada, England, Scotland, Spain, Australia, and from across the United States will converge on Upstate New York for the filming of “Blood and Fire.” Creative talent from a number of Star Trek Fan Films and the invovement of additional Trek alumni will make this very special episode. (News Release - May 27, 2007)

Denise Crosby and Bill Blair Join the Cast of "Blood and Fire"

Denise Crosby, who is probably best known to Star Trek fans for her portrayal of Lieutenant Tasha Yar, Chief of Security on the Enterprise-D, during the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and as the host / narrator of the documentary movies, “Trekkies” and “Trekkies 2,” will be joining the guest cast for Star Trek: New Voyages “Blood and Fire.” Crosby has extensive stage, screen and television credits. “Denise will be playing a pivotal character in “Blood and Fire,” said Senior Executive Producer James Cawley when he announced her appearance, “I had been talking to her for quite some time and we were finally able to confirm her for the June shoot – making this episode even more special.” Crosby can be seen in her most recent television appearances on, "Eyes” (ABC), "Crossing Jordan” (NBC), "Judging Amy” (CBS), "The Agency” (CBS), and "Threat Matrix” (ABC). For more information on Denise Crosby, check out her website at http://www.denisecrosby.net/

Bill Blair has appeared in front of the camera on many Star Trek episodes, but you might not immediately recognize him. Bill has donned alien masks and costumes on more than 35 episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as well as many episodes of Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise. He has played Cardassians, Klingons, Vulcans, Jem Hadar, and a number of other alien characterizations created by Michael Westmore and others. Not only does he posses extensive stage, screen, and television acting credits (both in and out of make-up), but he is an accomplished make-up artist in his own right. Not only will Bill be lending his make-up talents to this effects intensive episode, but he will also play Commander Mackel Blodgette, another pivotal role in the “Blood and Fire” script. DAVE School graduates and Star Trek: New Voyages Visual Effects Team members, Joel Bellucci and Dave Berry, completed over 600 visual effects shots for this outstanding episode. George Takei attended the event and congratulated the graduates for their hard work and accomplishments, praising them for their teamwork and passion. Marc Zicree thanked all in attendance and read an emotional letter from writer Michael Reaves, who could not be at the event. James Cawley noted that the quality of the visual effects work was equal to, or better than, some previous Star Trek theatrical releases. The congratulations closed with James, Jeff Quinn, John Kelly, John Lim, Julianne Irons, Andy Bray, and the rest, giving the graduates an appreciative bow. "BLOOD AND FIRE" TO BE SCORED BY NEIL NORMAN

Neil Norman will score the soundtrack and his Cosmic Orchestra will record the music for “Blood & Fire.” Norman, who is in charge of production for GNP Crescendo Records, and who was the Executive Producer of 20 award-winning Star Trek Albums, is a wildly diversified player in the music industry. The award-winning record producer is a driving force in bringing very intriguing genres of music to the record label, especially Science Fiction. Neil and his orchestra recorded the immensely successful Greatest Science Fiction Hits series - his interpretations of the most exciting Sci-Fi music from his favorite movies and TV shows, with Volume 4 the latest to be completed. Neil is also the executive producer for other Star Trek albums including the worldwide box office smash Star Trek: Generations and Emmy - winner Star Trek: Voyager, the #1 worldwide box office hit Star Trek: First Contact soundtrack featuring Academy Award-winner Jerry Goldsmith, and Star Trek Insurrection also featuring Goldsmith! In addition to preparing for the “Blood & Fire” soundtrack, Neil and the Cosmic Orchestra are currently in the process of recording SCI-FI HITS #5 to be released sometime later this year.

RICK STERNBACH JOINS ST:NV TEAM FOR BLOOD AND FIRE

Emmy and Hugo Award-winning graphic artist Rick Sternbach has joined the New Voyages team to design some specific costume elements and prop equipment for the upcoming episode, "Blood and Fire." Rick, along with Andy Probert, were the first two graphic and design artists hired for Star Trek: The Next Generation. Many of the best known props, such as the new style hand phasers, tri-corders, PADDs, and the Communicator Badge, as well as many other ships, sets, costumes, Trek Tech, (just about anything else you can think of) were designed by Sternbach for "The Next Generation", "Deep Space Nine", "Voyager" and several of the Star Trek movies. Along with Michael Okuda, Sternbach established and expanded many the concepts of the technology encountered in the Star Trek universe, including Warp Technology, Inertial Dampener Systems, the Transporter, and Structural Integrity Fields, which led to developing the now familiar Tech Manuals for several of the series.

"We were really having a bit of difficulty with some specific equipment and costume design elements for this episode," said Senior Executive Producer James Cawley. "Rick has agreed to tackle these designs, which will give him an opportunity to develop some TOS era technology. I can't wait to see what he will come up with."

CAVES AND TENAPA JOIN STNV TEAM

Star Trek: Hidden Frontier Executive Producer Rob Caves and Producer/Actor J.T. Tepnapa join the Star Trek: New Voyages team as Associate Producers for Blood and Fire. Hidden Frontier holds the distinction of producing 50 episodes of the longest running Star Trek fan series on the web. The series draws to a close and concludes this Spring in a feature-length final episode. "I honestly wasn't sure we'd get past that first season, or if everybody would lose interest and move onto something else." Caves said. When not making Hidden Frontier, Caves works as a Film/Video Editor in Hollywood, California. Prior to that he worked as a Post-Production Assistant for 20th Century Fox, and as a Production Assistant for Stone Stanley Productions while in college. Tepnapa is the Casting Director and a Producer for the series, as well as playing Lt. Commander Cory Aster, Engineer of the U.S.S. Excelsior. Tepnapa has written and produced a number of successful and award-winning independent projects and has formed his own production company, Blue Seraph Productions. "I have always been a fan of Hidden Frontier," said STNV Executive Producer James Cawley. "I look forward to working with both of them to make this extraordinary episode." DOCHTERMAN JOINS ST:NV FOR "BLOOD AND FIRE"

Daren R. Dochterman, visual effects designer, illustrator, Visual Effects Supervisor for the 2000 Director’s Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and Production Illustrator for the pilot episode of Star Trek: Voyager (who might be better known to Star Trek fans as the Godfather of “remastered” Trek) will be joining the Visual Effects team as VFX Supervisor for Star Trek: New Voyages’ fourth episode, Blood and Fire. Dochterman has worked on such films as the new Rush Hour 3, X-Men 3-The Last Stand, Poseidon, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and many more well known productions, (Check out his IMDB listing at www.imdb.com) but it was his original pitch to update the visual effects for Star Trek (TOS) that has garnered him much attention in the fan community. Dochterman’s affection for Star Trek is well known and fans appreciate the loving attention he gives to the detailed images of the classic Trek U.S.S. Enterprise.

Dochterman originally approached Paramount about the subject of “remastering” the effects for the original episodes in 2000. Although not ultimately chosen to helm the project we now know as Star Trek Remastered, (to the chagrin of many fans) Dochterman continues to produce beautiful Star Trek illustrations, many featured in the Pocketbooks Star Trek: Ships of the Line calendar series and recently published book of illustrations by the same name.

As Dochterman joins the team for Blood and Fire, he has already produced new opening credits for the episode. He will be providing guidance and suggestions to the team as they navigate one of the most effects intensive projects so far. Daren's feel for the classic Star Trek look is right on the money,” said Executive Producer James Cawley.
“The opening credits are just a taste of what he can do – his work is outstanding – it’s great to have him aboard.”

For more information on Daren Dochterman and his work, go to www.betafive.com or www.trekenhanced.com.

RETURN OF A ROGUE
J.G. HERTZLER JOINS NEW VOYAGES

Best known for his role as Klingon warrior, General, and ultimately Chancellor Martok on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, veteran Trek actor John (J.G.) Hertzler returns to fill the shoes of the ever-lovable charlatan and rogue, Harcourt Fenton Mudd. Hertzler will also direct the episode, currently titled, “The Sky Above, The Mudd Below.” Harry Mudd comes across loud and clear, it will be a hoot to embody the ol’ privateer… Harry Mudd is a cross between a giant Ferengi and a gypsy king,” said Hertzler after reading the script penned by Trek author, Howard Weinstein. Hertzler is known for his versatility as an actor, playing a number of roles on Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise, as well as many other stage and screen roles. “J.G. has a great sense of humor and I know he will make a great Harry Mudd,” remarked Producer James Cawley. “It takes a special actor to recreate the role of one of the greatest thorns in Captain Kirk’s side.” Pre-production work continues on the project, which has not yet been assigned a shoot date. “There are a few key roles and details we still have to nail down before we establish a firm shooting schedule,” said Cawley.

“THE SKY ABOVE, THE MUDD BELOW”

Howard Weinstein delivers “The Sky Above, the Mudd Below" to Star Trek: New Voyages Producers. This special episode of New Voyages will see the return of a fan favorite, the notorious privateer Harcourt Fenton Mudd.

Weinstein became a professional writer at age 19 when he sold “The Pirates of Orion” episode to the animated Star Trek series in 1974. He was all of 23 when he sold his first novel, “The Covenant of the Crown,” to Simon & Schuster’s fledgling series of Star Trek books. With the pending publication of “The Blood-Dimmed Tide,” part of Simon & Schuster’s six-part e-book series Mere Anarchy, his Star Trek writing career now spans 33 years.

Over that time, Howard’s Star Trek-related credits include six novels, 60 comic book issues, two graphic-novel story collections, story-development assistance on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and contributions to the recent short-story anthologies Deep Space 9: Tales of the Dominion War and Constellations. He wrote a special essay on the meaning and legacy of Star Trek in BenBella Books’ new 40th-anniversary anthology Boarding the Enterprise.

Howard says, “I’ve been a Star Trek fan since the beginning. I’ve also had the good fortune to be a guest speaker at Star Trek conventions every year since 1976, so I’ve had lots of interaction with the most loyal fans in the galaxy. I’ve seen how Star Trek inspires creativity from fans – art, music, costumes, and performances. But the first time I saw the work by the New Voyages gang, I thought they set a new standard for dedication.”

“While I’ve enjoyed all the Trek series and movies,” Howard adds, “the original is the one I grew up with and the closest to my heart. So I’m thrilled to be have the unexpected chance to write one more TV episode about those classic characters and to see the New Voyages team bring them to life.”

With Howard’s New Voyages romp “The Sky Above, the Mudd Below,” Kirk and his crew have an encore encounter with one of the show’s all-time favorite characters, lovable rogue Harcourt Fenton Mudd.

Star Trek novels by Howard Weinstein:

Star Trek: The Original Series titles:
“The Covenant of the Crown”
“Deep Domain”
“The Better Man”

Star Trek: The Next Generation titles:
“Power Hungry”
“Exiles”
“Perchance to Dream"

Pre-production ramping-up for “Blood and Fire” by David Gerrold
MORE GUEST CAST ANNOUNCED

As pre-production on David Gerrold’s “Blood and Fire” continues, additional guest cast members are announced for the upcoming episode. Bobby Rice is already slated to join the New Voyages crew as Ensign Peter Kirk, nephew of Captain James Kirk. A recent addition to the team is Evan Fowler, who will play Lt. Alex Freeman, a significantly pivotal role in “Blood and Fire.” Evan recently participated in a Los Angeles audition, out performing 50 other actors for the role. Also joining the New Voyages team for this episode is actor and producer, Nick Cook, of Star Trek: Intrepid, a Star Trek: TNG era production due out in early 2007. A life long Star Trek fan, Cook has recently finished filming the first adventure of the U.S.S. Intrepid with a group of close friends in Scotland, which is currently in post-production. The production values of Intrepid are among the highest in recent offerings of fan-based productions. “Blood and Fire” was originally pitched for consideration as a Star Trek: The Next Generation script by Gerrold in the 1980’s, but was rejected for what was then considered too controversial of a storyline, which dealt with sensitive social issues. Written by David Gerrold, with teleplay by New Voyages team member and producer, Carlos Pedraza, “Blood and Fire” is scheduled for a June 2007 shoot.

SURPRISE NEWS: OF GODS AND MEN

James Cawley reports on the latest rumors and reports regarding a new STAR TREK online mini-series:

There have been inaccurate reports on the wire, so to set the record straight, here is the SCOOP!

A fan produced feature-length digital miniseries that starts shooting on July 12 called "Star Trek: Of Gods and Men" will be Produced in part by the team behind "New Voyages." This new webisode — which will be distributed on the Internet in three parts — stars Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig reprising their roles as "Uhura" and "Chekov," but in the post-Kirk time of Enterprise-B captain "John Harriman," reprised by Alan Ruck. Tim Russ will direct, and will also appear as a younger "Tuvok." The film will include other performances by Garrett Wang ("Harry Kim"), Chase Masterson ("Leeta"), Grace Lee Whitney ("Janice Rand"), Gary Graham ("Soval") and Crystal Allen (from "Bound"), along with some special "surprise" guests.

"Of Gods and Men" is executive produced by Sky Douglas Conway, head of PlanetXpo and producer of "Lady Magdalene's" and the "Roddenberry on Patrol" short films, and the script was written by Conway along with Jack Trevino and Ethan H. Calk, both of whom contributed to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes. Other behind-the-scenes professionals from the actual show will be involved, such as Doug Knapp as director of photography.

The miniseries will be shot in part on the "New Voyages" set in New York State, but is expected to include locations in Los Angeles. The movie's Web site is www.startrekofgodsandmen.com.

Cawley explains, "While we are thrilled to be helping with this endeavor, please remember that this is A SEPARATE project from "NEW VOYAGES." This project was/is started by Sky Conway. He contacted us, and asked us about the use of our sets, props and volunteers. We here at New Voyages are VOLUNTEERING behind the scenes to help Sky with his Trek dream. This is his project and we are along for what is sure to be a fun ride. NO money is being made. We are not being paid and we are not charging for the use of our sets. We are still abiding by the guidelines given to us by Paramount more than two years ago.

"The fan films are a vital part of Star Trek and it's history. No other franchise on the planet can boast of such a dedicated and vocal fanbase! It is our dream that CBS/Paramount will someday license and support these Fan films. They already license fan fiction thru their pocket books division, this would be the next logical step! At any rate We are grateful to CBS/PARAMOUNT for 40 years of this enduring legacy, called Star Trek. We here at New Voyages support and thank them."

MARC ZICREE CHATS WITH J.J. ABRAMS

There are rumors galore about what the next Star Trek feature film will be about since the announcement that J.J. Abrams will be "producing a Star Trek Film". Writing in his blog, Marc had this to say, "We talked about various adventures and projects – including, of course, STAR TREK NEW VOYAGES and J.J.’s new STAR TREK feature, which he’s producing and may direct."

"WORLD ENOUGH AND TIME" SCRIPT DELIVERED TO "SULU"

This past week, Marc Scott Zicree personally delivered ”World Enough And Time,” The New Voyages script he and fellow scribe Michael Reaves have written, to George Takei.

After reading the script, George responded via email, "Bravo! Bravo! What a stellar work of drama you have written!" and continued, "I feel so privileged and wonderfully challenged to be able to work with you on this script. We are going to have a great time... These rich opportunities are so few and far between. I’m grateful to you guys. I can’t wait until September."

Speaking on "World Enough And Time" on his "blog," Marc mentions how the script has "been getting a GREAT reception, not just from NEW VOYAGES Executive Producer and star James Cawley and others on the show, but also from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA director Michael Nankin, who loved the script".

Zicree also notes at a lunch meeting with Max Rem (STNV special effects guru) and that they, along with Michael Reaves, will be getting together soon to "start planning, designing and storyboarding the numerous effects sequences".

"With everything we are trying to get done this year it's exciting to start seeing all these pieces fall into place", states James Cawley. "And, I just know our fans are going to be blown away by this script!"

VIGNETTE "CENTER SEAT" NOW AVAILABLE

Mark your calendars for St. Patrick's Day this year! "Star Trek New Voyages - Center Seat " will be released on March 17, 2006!

Filmed in September 2005, along with "To Serve All My Days," this 5 minute vignette introduces Sulu to the New Voyages family. "Scribe Erik Korngold ("In Harm's Way") came up with a great script to bring Mr. Sulu back to the helm," explains Producer James Cawley with a smile.

RON B. MOORE NOW CONTRIBUTING

James Cawley was surprised to receive an email from Ron B. Moore, StarTrek's visual effects supervisor for more than 18 years. After speaking with New Voyages VFX Guru, Max Rem, Ron contacted James to tell him how much he enjoyed New Voyages. While complimenting the cast and crew on what they'd accomplished, Ron said, "I would love to be a part of it."

"Who am I to say 'No' to Ronald B. Moore!" exclaimed James.

Not to be confused with Ron D. Moore (writer, producer,

GEORGE TAKEI BEAMS ONTO NEW VOYAGES

George Takei returns to the role of "Hikaru Sulu" for the third episode of Star Trek: New Voyages, "World Enough and Time". In an e-mail to STNV Executive Producer James Cawley, Mr. Takei writes:

Dear James,
Life is so full of unexpected new challenges. Your invitation for me to re-engage with the character of Hikaru Sulu after more than a decade is very exciting. To have Marc Zicree write and direct the project makes the invitation that much more thrilling. Walter Koenig has told me about his experiences with his New Voyages participation and how personally fulfilling it was for him. Thank you for creating this totally unanticipated opportunity for us as artists and for the fans whose love and devotion to 'Star Trek' has made this journey truly a phenomenal continuation of a great adventure. Together, we will 'boldly go' where we have never taken 'Star Trek' before." George Takei

"I can not say how much of an honor and privilege it is to be able to work with George. It is the thrill of a lifetime!" James Cawley said.

ZICREE & REAVES TAKE "NEW VOYAGES" INTO THE FINAL FRONTIER

"This is a Singular Honor, to have two very prestigious writers such as Marc and Michael offer to write an episode for us. Both Marc and Michael are huge Trek fans, they viewed our work, and were impressed! I am constantly amazed, and so thankful for their very special contribution."

"In addition, I am pleased to announce that Marc Zicree will also be directing this episode! It just doesn't get any better than that."

DAVID GERROLD JOINS NEW VOYAGES

Legendary Star Trek author David Gerrold announced today that he would be joining the production team of New Voyages. "New Voyages is produced by fans for fans, and they are great!" he exclaimed excitedly.

David has two stories on line, "The first is a re-worked Blood and Fire, which was originally pitched for TNG, but ultimately rejected for it's controversial storyline, dealing with an AIDS-like virus and homosexuality."

"This is a real coup for all of us here at New Voyages. David's involvement will give us the opportunity to deal with socially relevant topics, just as the original series did." enthused Executive Producer James Cawley.

Mr. Gerrold also plans a sequel to what is arguably the most famous Star Trek episode, "The Trouble With Tribbles." "I've had this idea for a long time, but we were never able to do it on the original series. There is a twist," explained Gerrold with a mysterious smile. "What starts out funny won't be for long."
